Shanghai Burger Month, Ep.1 — RAC II

Shanghai Burger Month,
Ep.1 — RAC II

This year heralds the triumphant return of a beloved Shanghai tradition, The Shanghai Burger Month. What with the world-reeling sniffles of the last few years, the yearly tradition had been noticeably missing from the city’s roster of gustatory events of recent. What started out years ago as a labor of love by the city’s resident food and beverage blogger, Rachel Gouk of Nomfluence, is now back and better than ever with 12 restaurants throwing their burgers in the ring to see which one stands above the rest.

With the Annual Burger Month coinciding with the start of the extended Labor Day Holiday, I decided to kick things off right by teaming up with my good friend Joe for lunch as we tested out RAC II’s Burger Month contender, the Cheesy Stack Burger. In this series, I will attempt to go to each of the twelve participating restaurants to see if they have what it takes to be crowned the city’s best burger.

P.S. Despite its business appearing to flourish, I recently noted that the RAC II location is no longer open. While this could be the result of planned renovation work, it appears more likely that it is permanently closed. The RAC brand does have other branches, but I don’t know if they have met a similar fate.
